A major part of ROTC is classroom instruction. Classes are taught by experienced commissioned and non-commissioned officers. A very professional office staff rounds out the Radford Cadre.

Basic Rifle Marksmanship is conducted once every semester. Cadets become familiar with and fire an M-16 rifle on a qualification range. This is the final phase of weapons training that starts early in the semester.

Radford University Army ROTC conducts physical training Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 0600 at various locations around campus. This is a large part of being in the Army and leads up to the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT).

This is one of the extra-curricular activities of ROTC. In the US Military, the Color Guard carries and posts the National Colors and other flags at different events. The Radford University Army ROTC Color Guard is in high demand at university and other local functions to include RU basketball games, local Veterans and Christmas parades, and many other events.
